Brief history of metallizing Print E-mail

Thermal (or heat) spray was invented in Germany over 100 years ago as a touch up system for galvanizing, and it was widely used in Australia.  Since then, other methods were invented that used electrical energy instead of flames to generate the required heat. Hence, the more inclusive term thermal spray was adopted. Thermal Spray became important during WW2 to repair tank and aircraft components, which were often in short supply.

In the 1990’s IMC developed equipment which brought metalizing to a new level. The number of applications with our thermal spray is in the thousands. It is used in almost every industry, from aerospace to zinc cathodic protection.
